How to Hang Christmas Decorations in Seconds

Back before I wrote this blog, I never, never would have decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving. I liked to focus on Thanksgiving, enjoy the anticipation of the feast and the time with extended family, and then start the Christmas decorating the week after. But now that I write this blog and post about Christmas decorating ideas and tutorials, I have to start the actual decorating process before Thanksgiving because in order to have things made, decorated, photographed, and ready to share by the beginning of December, it has to be done now. So this week I have been starting to deck the halls and I have a simple little product to share with you that is making that decking of halls so much quicker and easier. It’s also super cheap and readily available – read on to see how to hang Christmas decorations in mere seconds!

I started the Christmas decorating in my entryway, where I worked with my planned color palette for this year – dark green, blush pink, and coral like the free printable watercolor I posted earlier this week.

Want to know my secret weapon for getting all this greenery up in no time? Cable ties! The cable ties were absolutely brilliant for hanging the pre-lit garland on the banister. The ones I used require no tools at all – you slip one end of the cable tie through the other, bend the tail once in each direction, then twist and the excess cable tie comes right off. You don’t even need a pair of scissors!

I used them at the points where the garland touches the banister and then again to attach the ornament clusters to the garland (I used shatterproof ornaments – an excellent choice for a house with young kids). To make the ornament clusters, just string a bunch of ornaments on clear hanging wire or sturdy string then tie the two ends of the string together tightly and the ornaments will cluster right up.

I also used cable ties to hang a kissing ball from the bottom of my entryway light. Both the kissing ball and the garland had faux red berries but I snipped them off because I’m not planning to use much red this year.

I felt like the kissing ball could use a little ribbon underneath but tying beautiful multi-loop ribbons has never been one of my talents so I used cable ties to make a couple looped sections of ribbon that I attached to the kissing ball with…you guessed it…cable ties.

I put together a short video to show you how quick the cable ties are to use for hanging and also how I made the ribbon on the kissing ball. I made two of the looped bows and then attached them to the kissing ball.

I’m really loving how the decorations around here are coming together and using these cable ties has made it that much easier to get things hung. Such a simple solution and one I will certainly be using from now on. I used 11″ cable ties on the banister and to hang the kissing ball to the light fixture (they come in white and black) and used 7″ cable ties to attach the ornament clusters to the garland and to make the bows (they also come in white and black).
