Hi there! Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours fall edition is in full swing and today is my turn to share how I’ve added a little fall style to my house. If you’re joining me from Rain on a Tin Roof, hello and welcome! I’m a modern traditionalist when it comes to my house and am drawn to updated classics in just about everything. Come on in!
Let’s start in the kitchen. I like to keep my kitchen counters clear as much as possible but I do love staging the console table along the one wall with touches of seasonal decor.
Have you noticed how these faux cotton branches seem to be everywhere this fall? I couldn’t resist them and put a few stems in a white pitcher. I also snipped the cotton heads off another stem and clustered them together on a preserved boxwood wreath I have hung from the mirror. I’ve spent the past couple of days trying to keep my four year old from stealing all the “cotton balls.” They are apparently highly fascinating and she’s dying to pluck them all off their stems. I think antique wooden spools are perfect for any season and you can find them scattered around my house in a few different places on any given day.
Moving into the living room, I pulled together a simple fall mantle. You can see my earlier fall mantle with a free watercolor printable HERE.
This white dog statue has become a favorite of mine around the house. He likes to wear my bracelets as dog collars.
Such a fancy pup – he’s in a blingy fall mood this year.
There aren’t any other shots of the living room because………..it’s not actually furnished yet! The family room, however, is where pretty much all of our seating currently lives. I made the coffee table last fall (tutorial HERE) and bought the navy blue sofa on Craigslist and revived it with fabric dye (details HERE).
I think pillows are always the easiest way to update the seasonal feel of a room, and I swapped out my John Robshaw knockoff pillow in shades of pale blue and coral for some reds and dusty blues I had in the closet. The gold pillow stays out pretty much year round.
I filled the wood bowl on my coffee table with fresh apples. I give them about two more days before my daughters have munched through all of them. They’re equal parts confused and delighted that I have left a bowl of snacks in the middle of the family room.
My newest coffee table book, Eddie Ross’ Modern Mix, has already found its way to a place of prominence. It really is a fantastic book (check it out HERE).
I decided to give our screened porch a little fall spruce up as well. I only just gave it a makeover in the spring (details HERE) and kept things mostly the same, except for swapping in some plaid, faux fur, and velvet for the pinks and navies.
I was drawn to the blue plaid pillow right away and love how the yellow velvet one brings out some of the background yellow in the plaid. Plus the texture of the velvet is so nice. Textures like velvet and fur add instant luxe and feel right at home when the weather starts to cool.
These cockscomb flowers are totally spectacular. They have a rich, deep pink color and look like they’re made of velvet.
The electric fireplace I added this past spring is what will really allow us to enjoy this space when it gets cool outside.

It was a pretty hectic Sunday trying to carve out a few photographable spots ;) I am literally spending every possible second on the porch – I get a little frantic this time of year when my days out there are numbered.
gorgeous! love the mantle. we just DIY’ed our own mantle this weekend, our house didnt’ have one and I just can’t wait to paint it and decorate – love the cotton branches and the little dome filled with fall goodies!

I’ve had that chair hiding for over a year now! It’s a vintage one I want to reupholster but I finally just pulled it out of hiding because who knows when I’ll have time to reupholster it!
so so gorgeous, Jennifer!! Cockscomb flowers are one of my favorites!!! When they dry, they open up to show you their seeds. Just sprinkle them in the landscape and you will grow your own! Love all the color you brought it! Beautiful!! xox

Lovely! The fall touches are perfect and the way I love to decorate for fall – sprinkling some warmer colors around with a few seasonal natural elements! (Unfortunately, it’s still in the 90’s here so I won’t *feel* like adding fall decor until November, probably :P )
I especially love the candles clustered on the mantel with all the gold!
I only wish the cool weather didn’t set in so fast here…I guess you always want what you don’t have, right?! Even with fall weather pretty much here, I still have a hard time jumping into fall because I always want to cling to summer!

Speaking of dogs, I’ve been showing my family pictures of Zoey from your IG the past few days. My girls are all in, Scott is not so sure ;) Probably a pretty girly dog for a guy already living in a house full of girls!

Thanks, Beth! I was standing in front of the mantle trying to figure out a plan for the middle and then went and poached every single white pillar candle from the house. It all had to be easy this year since I only had like one day to pull everything together!

Haha! You’re funny :) The living room chair has been here for a year but I don’t think I’ve ever photographed it before. It’s vintage and I want to recover it but haven’t yet. I finally figured, what the heck? May as well use it while I’m waiting to reupholster it! And I looooove my porch. I need to move to a place where I can use it all year!

Everything looks lovely! I’m really liking the cotton….apparently I was ahead of my time, because that’s exactly what I wanted for my bedroom a couple of years ago and couldn’t find it anywhere!

Where would I look to find the faux cotton? Somewhere like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby? I’ve looked for it in the past with no luck! Hopefully I can find some now.

Ok you have me chuckling throughout your tour with all your little comments… The cotton balls, the blingy dog, snack in the living room… Reminds me of when I read my first post of yours when you described your BHG feature and the Barbie hands…. Lol! You are hilarious and your home is gorgeous! Is the tufted yellow vintage chair new? Love it next to the fireplace! And I also love the artful way you staged the little console off the kitchen with those booties on the stool! Last, I love all your gold things. I see that sparkle and I’m all (heart eyes times 10).
Ah, the Barbie hands…I remember them well. That chair…it is glorious, and not at all new actually. I bought it over a year ago but had been hiding it away until I had time to reupholster. But then I figured I may as well pull it out and use it while I’m waiting to carve out the reupholstery time! Thanks for all the nice comments, my friend. Don’t you wish we all lived close enough to pop over and see each other’s houses in person??
