I’ve been teasing you for months now with talk of our new kitchen curtains and, finally, here they are!
They’ve been hung for a couple months but I only just got around to photographing them this past weekend. Here’s a peek at the evolution of our kitchen eating area.

Since we bought the house:
I did like the red striped cafe curtains but they never fit the windows exactly right (I had multiples overlapping) and ultimately decided I wanted something softer.
I started out making drapes from canvas drop cloths and got one entire panel stenciled in a gorgeous ikat when I realized it just wasn’t working. The single panel took me several afternoons (naptimes) to stencil and while the pattern itself was beautiful I just wasn’t loving the effect on the curtains. I put them aside for a few weeks to think about what direction I wanted to take and that’s when I came across these cotton canvas panels from West Elm.
They’re exactly the color I wanted, they were only $39 a panel, machine washable (great for a kitchen where little people eat!), and I loved the pattern. They’re a nice substantial weight and the cotton canvas keeps them from looking too fancy in a casual kitchen. I popped them up on the rods I already had in place and have loved them ever since.
Sometimes I get so caught up in DIY mode I forget to look around at ready-made options. This is a great reminder that there are times when you can find exactly what you’re looking for all ready to open up and be done with it. Don’t worry – my do-it-yourself spirit isn’t going anywhere. I think I’ll always love building things and making things but it sure is nice, every now and again, to just open a box!

I love these! My mom made me silk curtains for my living room like ones we saw at Restoration Hardware to save me some money. By the time we were done she decided it wasn’t worth all the effort as we didn’t end up saving all that much.

You’d think it would be cheaper to do them yourself but it definitely isn’t a lot of the time!

Love the update! Also love the glass bubble vase on your white table! Can you share where you got that?
Jennifer {The Chronicles of Home} says
I got it at Home Goods a year or two ago! It’s made of recycled glass so has this great pale aqua color.

Your curtains look wonderful:) Sometimes when you factor the cost of all the supplies and your time.. you might as well purchase something that’s complete. Patience, waiting for the annual markdowns!
