Last Monday I told you a little bit about a project I was working on with The Home Depot to help get the word out about their free in-store workshops, and today is the day I’m showing you how I put it all together. Just to refresh your memory, or if you missed the original post, I built a DIY rustic wheelbarrow that is just perfect for fall. Here’s a look at Home Depot’s version of the wheelbarrow.

Here’s my version of it.
You can see that the construction is just the same but I chose to stain mine with Minwax Early American and then hand drew a herringbone-inspired pattern with a Sharpie oil-based paint pen.
We still use our screened porch in the fall but it can get chilly in the evenings so having a spot to store throw blankets is the perfect fall accessory for the room. Well that and the fireplace of course!
This little rustic wheelbarrow was so easy to build thanks to a comprehensive tutorial from The Home Depot. You can make one for yourself, to hold blankets, flowers, pumpkins, Halloween candy, or really anything you can think of this fall, by signing up for a DIH (Do-it-Herself) Workshop at your local store. The Home Depot offers Workshops at all of their locations for do-it-yourselfers of all ages and experience levels. There are three types of Workshops offered – Do-It-Yourself (DIY), Do-It-Herself (DIH) and Kids. You can learn how to build décor projects, how to make easy home repairs, and how to operate tools through demonstrations and step-by-step instructions. All Workshops are 100% FREE too, so you have nothing to lose and LOTS of amazing skills to gain.

This rustic wheelbarrow would be a great starter project and you would learn the basics of using some common power saws and an electric screwdriver, both of which are tools I use all the time and have proven to be invaluable skills for me to have as both a homeowner and a creative.
Even if you already have some of these basic skills, The Home Depot’s FREE workshops are a great way to build on your knowledge base and make something fun in the process.
