Today, I’m circling back to my basement family room that I shared with you a couple weeks ago. If you’re a regular reader you know I’ve been working on this project for months and the room has gone from pretty sad and dingy to the bright, comfortable space of my finished basement dreams. Today I wanted to break things down further so you can find all the other finished basement family room sources I used to finish and decorate the room.
The green paint color above the white wainscoting is Peale Green by Benjamin Moore. The white was color matched to the white on the built-ins so doesn’t have its own name.

I loved the idea of adding a little greenery down here but it’s a basement with very little natural light so I tried the faux ficus tree you see here from Silk Plants Direct. They have an unbelievable assortment of artificial trees, even huge, natural-looking fake palm trees you can use outdoors. The ficus was just the right size for my basement though and I’m really impressed with both the quality and the price. As with any faux tree, you can tell the leaves are fake when you get close but from a couple steps back you can barely tell. The trunk is especially realistic – I used to have one of these real trees (which I killed of course) and the trunk looked exactly like this. And I will never kill this one, so yay for that.
