It’s been over six months now since you heard a peep from me about our plans to build a Trex deck this summer, but it was a loooooong cold season here this year. We’ve finally picked up where we left off last fall and had all the materials delivered about a month ago.
Then it occurred to me that I don’t actually know how to build a deck and thus commenced a minor episode of panic as I stared at the piles of foreign lumber and materials and realized I had no idea what to do with them.
All I can say is thank goodness for my dad and his good friend who is a veteran contractor and knew exactly what to do. We’ve spent lots of time on the phone the past few weeks and I am feeling confident again that I can do this.
Scott did most of the demo work a couple weekends ago so we can hit the ground running now – though after he put a rusty nail through his foot in the process, followed by a tetanus shot and a 10 day stint on antibiotics, I may be the only one running anywhere for awhile!
I’ll be sharing detailed steps and tutorials as we move through this project – as with most DIY projects I’m finding that once you know what to do it doesn’t seem quite so daunting anymore, and I love being able to share what I learn along the way so you can put your own DIY home improvement plans into action. You can follow along with the building progress on Instagram with the hashtag #jenbuildsadeck.
Make sure you go back and read this post if you need a refresher on the project, and check out the video below for an overview of where we are now!
Trex has provided me with Trex materials to build this deck, but all ideas, opinions, and tutorials are my own.
