I suppose I’m a little behind the eight ball here with two days to go before Thanksgiving, but I’ve only just put together what I’ll be making for the feast. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law are bringing creamed onions, green beans, and twice-baked sweet potatoes and I’m covering the rest. Which I’m psyched about because the stuffing and the pies are my favorite parts of the meal to make and eat!
I’m sticking pretty close to the classics but with a few updated twists. Here’s the plan, in case you’re in the same boat!
Accidental Turkey with Make-Ahead Gravy – this quick-cooking turkey is so juicy and delicious, and the gravy can be made almost completely ahead of time. With wine and cognac. Yum.
Bacon, Apple, and Fennel Stuffing – I’ll be adding some sage and possibly raisins to this recipe, and probably skipping the boiled bacon part. Crisped in the oven should work just fine. Why make it more complicated than it has to be?
Butter Pecan Toffee Pumpkin Pie – I made this a few years ago and it is SO good. The toffee and candied pecans really put it over the top. In the best way possible.
Rustic Caramel Apple Tart – one of my all-time favorite desserts. Can you tell I took the photos before I knew how to work my camera properly? Ignore that – it’s really, really worth making.
