I know I have mentioned here before that diets don’t work for me. As in, they morph me into a hyper-intense lunatic who winds up spiraling into a dark place.
It has been a LONG time since I went on any type of diet, because I realized that they are, in general, bad for my mental health. And minus some unfortunate thigh dimples in my thirties, I’m pretty much okay with my weight and how I look.

But Monday of this week I started the Whole30 program. Mostly, I’m just really curious to see if I have the energy surge so many people on it experience. Plus I really wanted my mom to try it because of some health issues she’s been having, and it seemed more fun if we were in it together.
If you’re not familiar with Whole30, the basics are that you cut out all grains, legumes, dairy, sugar (even natural sugars), and alcohol for 30 days. And then you slowly reintroduce them to see if your body has an adverse reaction to any of those food groups.
It’s like a month-long detox for your systems but you’re eating the whole time. It’s not about weight-loss or being hungry, but choosing from a small group of whole foods when you are hungry and giving your body a break from potentially inflaming foods. It’s about overall health and understanding how your body works best, and THAT is a diet I can get on board with.
And it’s only 30 days. I can do anything for 30 days.
I seriously, seriously doubt I will wind up permanently removing any food groups from my diet, but I love the idea of making informed decisions about what I eat based on what makes me feel best.
So what this means for my usual posting is that I will probably go on a hiatus from food photos for the next month. I do plan to keep a little journal of my meals for the next 30 days and will share when I’m all finished so any of you inclined to try the diet will have some inspiration.
