You won’t believe how easily and how cheaply you can make the shiny, glittery, festive ornament garland I showed you last week on one of the two mantles I decorated for Christmas this year.
It took me just four simple steps to get from nothing to this sparklefest.

- Buy about twenty tubes of metallic and glittered ball ornaments from the dollar store. I bought three different sizes, which helps give the finished garland nice dimension.
- Pour them all out of their tubes into a gorgeous, sparkling pile on your floor or table. Swim in them (optional).
- Cut a long length – I’d say 6-7 feet – of clear hanging wire, thin ribbon, or any thin-ish hanging instrument you wish to use. I used thin satin ribbon. String the first ball on and push close to the end of the ribbon, then tie a knot to secure it in place, leaving a few inches of ribbon hanging. Continue stringing ornaments and pushing them to the end and you’ll see they naturally start to cluster on top of each other.
- When you finish, tie a knot at the other end and hang on your mantle! I used Command hooks on either end and in the middle to give my ornament garland a draped look.
Pretty easy, right? And It came in just over $20!
I have a feeling you’ll be seeing this little garland pop up in my holiday decor for a few years to come. I love the way it catches the light from the Christmas tree and adds a whimsical but still classic touch to my Christmas decorations.
