Whew, it has been a packed past week of Christmas around here and I’m back today with the last of my three Christmas tours. I shared my living room and dining room last week, my entryway and guest room yesterday, and today I’m taking you through my mudroom and family room. Today’s post is part of a Christmas house tour hosted by Marty from A Stroll Thru Life, who also just happens to be the stop on the tour ahead of me. If you’re stopping by from Marty’s, thank you so much for joining me today!
Other than my kitchen, which you’ll also get a little peek of today, the mudroom and family room are the rooms that get used the most by my family. We drop boots and bags and gear in the mudroom every day and the family room is our most common landing spot towards the end of the day. I had fun staging the mudroom but I have to say…while we do ski and ice skate and trim clippings from the yard and leave our boots on the floor sometimes, I would never leave my skis and snowshoes in the mudroom for longer than about a minute! So while this may not be a totally accurate version of what my mudroom looks like most of the time (more backpacks and little girl shoes thrown about for sure until I squawk enough about things having a place and why don’t “we” put those things in their place please), it is a representation of some of the things we like to do around here in the winter. And it was just plain fun to put it all together :)
So come on in and kick your boots off!

Adjacent to the mudroom is the kitchen, where I made a garland for around the circular mirror from yard clippings. And the pie shown is to die for! You can find the recipe HERE.

The family room is what you see just beyond the kitchen and that’s where we added our second Christmas tree this year. The tree in my living room (which is covered in handmade paper flowers, and I think it is glorious, and I completely adore it) was all me. No little hands helped me decorate it, and that is just fine by me, but I also want my girls to grow up with memories of decorating the Christmas tree together so this one, fittingly for the family room, is our family tree. It holds old ornaments that were my husband’s and mine when we were young, it holds new ornaments we’ve gotten as gifts more recently, and I just loved doing this with my daughters. And save for one especially aggressive cluster of about nine ball ornaments hung on the same branch, I didn’t move a thing my girls hung on the tree.
